Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande is relishing his return to The Warriors as they edge closer to qualification for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Katsande has made a return to the Zimbabwean national team for the first time since his supposed retirement after the 2017 AFCON finals.

The 32-year-old has been ever-present at his club this season, missing just one of Amakhosi’s 18 fixtures thus far, while recently also getting on the scoresheet against Black Leopards.

With his country on the brink of qualification to next year’s continental finals, the veteran enforcer has been roped in by coach Sunday Chidzambwa to aid the team over their penultimate hurdle this weekend.

The Warriors – currently without a defeat on eight points from four games – will visit bottom-of-the-group Liberia on Sunday, needing just three more points to secure their passage to Cameroon.

Katsande has since expressed delight at his return to the international stage for the first time since January last year, as he hopes to use his experience to good effect.

“I’ve missed playing for my national team because where I am today is because of them, so it’s always good to give back to my country and I can’t wait to play again,” said Katsande of his recall.

“Everybody wants to represent their country, so they called me and asked If I could come and help, so I said why not? Because they are in the critical phase of the qualification campaign.

“They want everybody and all their experience to come and help, so I think it was a way of understanding each other. We still need to play two games, so we just need to play the next game against Liberia and win to ensure [qualification].”- KickOff
