France-bound midfielder Marshall Munetsi has reflected on his move from Orlando Pirates to Stade de Reims.
Munetsi this week completed a move to the Ligue 1 outfit on a four-year deal, ending a two year stay with The Buccaneers, though his first year was spent on loan at Baroka.
The 22-year-old established himself in the Pirates setup last season, making 25 appearances across all competitions, mostly as a centre-back.
Upon being unveiled by the newly-promoted outfit, he has revealed how the move came about after interest from several clubs in Europe.
“I fell in love with football and coming to Europe was a childhood dream. Today it’s my greatest achievement and it’s up to me to make sure that there are others now,” Munetsi told his new club’s website, before reflecting on how the move came about.
“I had to go to the national team and was then called and told that several European clubs were interested in me, including Reims.
“As soon as I met the management and visited the facilities, I did not hesitate very long [to sign with the club].”
The Zimbabwean international, who is now preparing to participate at the Africa Cup of Nations finals kick-off next week in Egypt, has also shared a short message for his family and the club’s supporters.
“My family has always encouraged me a lot. I had to get away from them for football and there were not only good times but when you are passionate about a sport, by what we do every day, we can do a lot,” he added.
“Today, I am just a youngster who wants to help the team. I grew up watching clubs like Barcelona and Ajax. People pay to come live emotions at the stadium, and we must repay them.”- KickOff
